Content drafts

Turn a content gap into a first draft you can edit, copy and download.

You found a gap worth covering, and nobody on the team has a free afternoon to write it. A content draft gives you a first version to edit instead of a blank page. SpyGlow writes it from a gap in one of your content gap analyses, in the format, tone and length you choose.

Content drafts are included on Pro, Growth and Teams. On Free, the Generate Content and Content Library links in the sidebar show a lock and open an upgrade prompt.

Start a draft

Drafts start from a gap, so run a content gap analysis first.

  1. In the sidebar, open Content Gaps > Generate Content.
  2. Under Select analysis, choose a completed analysis.
  3. Under Select Content Gap, choose the gap to write about. Its description and keywords appear below the menu.
  4. Set the options described below.
  5. Click Generate content, and stay on the page until the draft appears.

Drafts start from a gap, not from a saved brief. To carry points from a brief into a draft, add them under Custom instructions.

  • SEO optimization: a meta description, headers and keywords
  • Include statistics: data points and research
  • Include examples: real-world examples and use cases
  • Include CTA: a call to action at the end

Custom instructions take up to 500 characters for anything else, such as keywords to include, points to cover or style preferences.

Edit the draft

The draft opens in Preview. Switch to Edit to change the text. You type in Markdown on the left and see the formatted result on the right, with a running word count.

SEO preview shows the draft's title and description as they could appear in search results, with its focus keyword.

When you are happy with the draft, use Copy or Download to take it with you. Download saves it as Markdown (.md) or plain text (.txt).

Use the thumbs up or thumbs down under the draft to tell us how it turned out.

Get another version

To try a different angle, change the settings and click Generate content again. Each run creates a new draft in your library and uses one draft from your monthly allowance.

The content library

Open Content Gaps > Content Library in the sidebar, or click Content library on the drafts page. It lists your drafts with their status, content type, word count, date and the domain it was written for.

  • Search by title or text, and filter by status (Draft, Completed or Archived) and by content type.
  • Switch between grid and list view.
  • Open a draft's menu to View it in the editor, Copy it, Export it as Markdown or Plain Text, Archive it or Delete it. Deleting a draft cannot be undone.
  • Click Generate new to start another draft.
