Keyword research
Find keywords around a topic, see which look easier and more relevant to your business, and pick what to write about.
Before you spend a week on a post, check which search terms around the topic are worth it. Keyword research takes a topic and returns related keywords, each with an estimated difficulty, the searcher's intent and how relevant it is to your business. Open Keyword Research in the sidebar. It is included on every plan.
Start a run
- Type a topic in the search box, for example "marketing automation tools".
- Click Research. SpyGlow looks for keywords, then analyzes them. The page shows progress while it works.
- The results appear when the run is done.
Each run uses one run from your monthly allowance, including a run on a topic you researched before.
Not sure where to start? Suggest topics opens AskGlow with a question ready for you to send.
From a saved content brief, Research this keyword opens this page with the brief's primary keyword already filled in. The run starts only when you click Research.
Below the results, Explore related topics lists nearby topics. Click one to put it in the search box, then click Research to run it.
What a keyword row shows
Above the table, four counts sum up the run: Found, Estimated easy wins, Actionable and Saved.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Keyword | The keyword. A star marks a recommended action. |
| Difficulty | Easy, Medium or Hard: an estimate of how hard the keyword is to compete for. Unscored when there is no estimate. |
| Intent | What the searcher wants: Learn, Buy, Compare, How-to or Navigate. |
| Relevance | How relevant the keyword is to your business, as a percentage. |
| Actions | Copy the keyword, or save it with the bookmark icon. |
Click a row to open its Insight, which explains the opportunity, and Suggested content, the type of content to write for it.
Scores are estimates. The page says so above the table: "Scores are AI estimates, not measured search volume or rankings." Keyword research does not show search volume. If a keyword has no score, it stays in the list for you to review and save, without a priority estimate.
Prioritize
- Results are sorted by Relevance, highest first. Click the Keyword, Difficulty or Relevance header to sort by that column, and click again to reverse the order.
- Use the difficulty filter to show Easy only, Medium only or Hard only.
- Start with keywords that are both relevant and easy. Estimated easy wins tells you how many there are, and the star marks the keywords SpyGlow recommends acting on.
- Save the keywords you want to keep with the bookmark icon. Saved counts them for this run.
Use a keyword
Keyword research does not create drafts or actions by itself. To act on a keyword, copy it with the copy icon, then:
- add it to a content brief's keywords in Content gaps, or
- on Actions, click New action and paste it in. See Actions.
History
Your recent runs are listed under History, on the left of the page. On a phone, tap the menu button to open Research history. Each run shows its topic, when you ran it and how many keywords it found. Search them with the history search box, and click a run to open its results again. Opening a past run does not use a run. Click + to start a new one.
